Bree is helping her Aunt Jane find a travel trailer for herself so she can camp with our family.
Jane's key features are
Fixed Bed
Less than 3500 lbs GVWR
Bathroom with flush toilet
Compact
Dining table
Indoor kitchen
Now the exciting part, we are actually getting out to look at some trailers!
Our first stop is the NuCamp Tab 400.
Want help looking for your own trailer or thinking about features? Check out this blog post about identifying key features here, or watch the video. Don't forget to use our free travel trailer guide to search using your own criteria! You can find the Tab 400 in the guide as well.
You can see a video walkthrough here:
uCamp makes several tear drop trailers, the 400 is the largest. The one we are looking at has the boondock package which adds higher clearance, off-road tires and solar on the roof.
Some basic specifications of the nuCamp TAB 400.
The layout for the TAB 400

The TAB 400 has a wet bath and sleep 3. the fixed bed is a slightly narrower than Queen bed 55" x 79” and The convertible dinette is a slightly smaller than twin bed (30 x 71). It has a 22 gal fresh water tank, 18 gal grey tank and a 12 gal black tank.
The Tab 400 is 18 feet 3 inches long with a dry weight of 2900 lbs and a max weight of 3900 lbs. The exterior has a a rail where you can slide on an awning and a small access compartment for storage on the rear passenger side. According to the sales rep we talked to, most of the models you will see on the lot have an upgrade package called the boondock package that includes solar panels on the roof.
It also has an exterior shower built into the nautilus water management system which I really like. It gives you a single place to connect your water with knobs that switch between filling the tank and running straight from the water hookup. It also gives you a diagram for how to winterize and de winterize.
Pros for the TAB 400
The tab 400 has tons of interior storage!
It has lots of windows and they open fully.
The fixed bed is pretty close to a queen.
The dinette bed is small but the table is on a lagun mount which you can actually also take outside, a nice feature.
A well laid out bathroom.
Tabs have a good reputation for being well made
Fairly well insulated making it a great 3 season camper.
If you choose the larger fridge, it is mounted higher on the wall so you don’t have to crouch down to get into it.
Cons for the TAB 400
There is a lot to love in this camper. A few minor challenges. The back bed is fixed so there is no option to set that up for a larger seating area, and storage underneath might be hard to access.
As I discuss during the video, some of the inside storage is open which feels like it could look messy and/or not be very useful if things fall out while you are moving. The outside storage is tiny.
Depending on what you are looking for, the Tab 400 is close to 4000 lbs so you will be looking at a larger tow vehicle, something that can tow 5000 lbs at minimum. This is heavier than our Alto and other smaller models of trailer and is probably a deal breaker for Jane.
Jane has a lot more trailers to look at so check back for our next tour of the nuCamp Tab CS-S Clamshell!
