Braxton Creek Freesolo FAM (Bushwacker Plus) Tour

Updated: Jan 12, 2022

Bree is helping her friend Michelle find a travel trailer for herself and her 2 young boys. You can read about the process they used to identify her key features here, or watch the video.

In case you need a re-cap, Michelle's key features are

  • Bunk beds

  • Less than 5000 lbs GVWR

  • Bathroom with flush toilet

  • Compact

  • Ideally modern interiors

Now the exciting part, we are actually getting out to look at some trailers! Our first stop was the Braxton Creek Freesolo FAM (also known as the Bushwacker Plus).

You can see a video walkthrough:

Braxton Creek makes a series of tear drops and the Bushwhacker Plus (or in the PNW FreeSolo) has several models. Of those, the FreeSolo FAM (Bushwhacker Plus 17BH) seems the best suited for families with a convertible dinette (converts to a large twin bed 42" x 78") and large bunk beds (41" x 77"). It doesn't have the windows of some of the higher end brands but these seem like a great option for family friendly travel trailers that sleep up to 4. The interior storage is minimal but the under-bed storage is massive. You can find these at a dealership, see the link on their website to find one near you.

This definitely checked all the boxes for Michelle's required list. It has bunk beds, is lightweight and compact, has a wet bath with grey, black, and fresh water tanks, and she even liked the interior styling!

The few things she wasn't sure about

The interior height - it was a lower ceiling than some of the camper's I've looked at but certainly fine for her and her boys for now.

The interior storage was pretty minimal - though she would take out the microwave and get some storage there. You can access the pretty massive under bed storage via the inside and outside though.

If you've seen the video on our Alto, you know that windows were a high priority for us. This doesn't have a lot of interior windows so if that is a must, it might not fit your list. Michelle plans to stick to mostly summer camping so being inside during bad weather is not as big of a priority for her.

The dinette bed is pretty small. For sleeping 4, you would be pretty cozy in a 42" x 78" bed. For reference, a twin is 38" x 75" and a double is 54" x 74". This bed is longer than either but closer in width to a twin than the double sized bed.

Overall, Michelle really liked this camper! We will be visiting more before she picks one so subscribe to the blog or our youtube channel to catch all our videos!

About Us

PXL_20210707_184050981.jpeg

We are a busy family who wants to help you get outside and have an adventure. A scientist by training, Bree got interested in travel trailers while we were searching for ours (Ben might call it an obsession). Whatever you call it, that research turned into this website when Bree realized that maybe someone else would listen to her talk about travel trailers! We both love to cook but Ben has mastered the art of organizing our meals and is excited to share those tips here.
