3 Tips to make your Camping Cooking easier

Updated: Nov 21, 2021

We love to cook and we love to eat well. Sometimes it’s hard to imagine that we could do both while camping and not spend all our time cooking and cleaning! We’ve developed a few tips for getting ready to camp that help make our prep go more smoothly. Also, don’t forget to download our free 3 day meal plan + shopping list to make your next camping adventure simpler!

Tip #1: Make as much ahead as possible

In these photos we are prepping Southwest bowls and we cooked the quinoa, the beans, the veggies and made the sauce all before we left. When we got to the campsite it was simple to just heat everything up and serve. We prepped and served what seemed like a complex meal to a group of 8 in less than 30m!

I can’t tell you how much we didn’t want to do this the night before we left!! It was Friday night, we had worked all week and we were tired and cranky but we did it anyway and were so glad when we got to the camp site!

You can find the recipe for southwest bowls here

Tip #2: Keep it simple.

We generally do one more complicated meal during a camping trip because we enjoy it but we keep the rest of our meals as simple as we can. Major tip to make the breakfast the day you leave as easy as possible. We once made the mistake of making an elaborate breakfast with multiple options for a group of 10+ the day we were leaving. Needless today, we didn’t leave when we planned on it!! The dishes alone were frightening.

Tip #3: Make your dinner into the next day’s lunch

This is especially useful if you will be traveling or hiking the next day. Basically we turn anything into a wrap. This works great if you can do it while you are cleaning up dinner, just slap some leftovers into a tortilla, fold it tight, toast it in a pan (or not!) and wrap in foil – lunch done, leftovers managed!

Enjoy your next trip and let us know in the comments what your trips are for easy camp food! Don’t forget to download our free 3 day meal plan with recipes and shopping list coming soon!

About Us

We are a busy family who wants to help you get outside and have an adventure. A scientist by training, Bree got interested in travel trailers while we were searching for ours (Ben might call it an obsession). Whatever you call it, that research turned into this website when Bree realized that maybe someone else would listen to her talk about travel trailers! We both love to cook but Ben has mastered the art of organizing our meals and is excited to share those tips here.
